Connect OpenRouter to Movermate

Connecting OpenRouter lets you use one API key to access many AI models (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Llama, Mistral and more) for the "Help me write" feature in email and SMS compose. This guide walks you through creating an OpenRouter account, generating an

Step 1: Create an OpenRouter account

  1. Go to openrouter.ai and click Sign Up in the top right corner.

  2. Sign up with GitHub, Google or MetaMask, or enter your email and a password. Tick the box to agree to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Model Terms, then click Continue.
    ​

If you already have an OpenRouter account, click Sign in and skip to Step 2.

Step 2: Open the API Keys page

After signing up, you land on your Default Workspace. In the left menu, click API Keys.

Step 3: Create a new key

  1. Click + New Key in the top right corner.
    ​

  2. Fill in the form:
    ​

    • Name: something you'll recognize, such as "Movermate".

    • Expiration: choose when the key should expire.

    • Credit limit: choose a spending limit for this key, plus a reset period if you want one.

  3. Click Create.

Step 4: Copy your API key

  1. Click the copy icon next to your new key.
    ​

Important: OpenRouter shows the full key only once. Copy it now and store it somewhere safe. If you lose it, you'll need to create a new key.

Step 5: Add the key in Movermate

  1. In Movermate, go to Settings → Connected Apps.

  2. Scroll down to the OpenRouter card and turn it on, or click it, to open the Connect OpenRouter to Movermate window.

  3. Paste your key into the API Key field. Click the eye icon to check that it pasted correctly.

Step 6: Choose a model

  1. Go back to OpenRouter and click Models in the top menu.
    ​

  2. Use the Search models… bar to find the model you want, for example "Gemini 3.8 Flash".
    ​

  3. Open the model page and click the copy icon next to the model name (for example google/gemini-3.8-flash).
    ​

  4. Return to Movermate and paste the model name into the Model field.
    ​

💡 Tip: Models differ in speed, quality and price. Fast, lower-cost models are usually a good fit for short emails and SMS messages.

Step 7: Test and connect

  1. Click Test Connection to confirm the key and model work.

  2. Click Connect OpenRouter to save.

You're done. The "Help me write" feature in email and SMS compose will now use your chosen model.

Troubleshooting

  • Test Connection fails: Check that the key was pasted in full with no extra spaces, and that it hasn't expired.

  • Model not found: Copy the model name again from openrouter.ai/models using the copy icon.

  • No response or errors after a while: Your key may have hit its credit limit or expiration date. Check the key in OpenRouter and add credits or create a new key.
